Mike Batt's involvement in his projects often includes directing, which he sees as part of the process of maintaining continuity to a piece. The disadvantages and extra workload of taking on the responsibility of directing is balanced by the ability to achieve a cohesive artistic vision in both sound and visual realisation. His first experience of directing promo films was in 1976 with his own "Madhouse Rag" shot on 16mm (see link) and his first live musical was "The Hunting Of The Snark" at the Prince Edward Theatre in London's West End in 1991, a production which he also designed using his own system of multiple kinetic projection sources to create the constantly moving scenery, a less developed version of which he had first used on the TV special "Zero Zero" in 1982.  (See "Projects" section of this site).
